A Diverse Programme in the Village of Inari on Sámi National Day, 6 Feb. 2015

Jan 30, 2015 10:35 AM

The key actors of the village of Inari have joined forces with each other and created a common programme to celebrate the Sámi National Day. The programme consists of a variety of elements from Sámi culture. There will be music, films, art, storytelling, reindeer, enterprise, and top performances! And each of the Sámi languages spoken in Finland will have its place in the programme. There will be things going on from morning to evening, and for people of all ages! Come to enjoy the programme of the day and being together with others!

Siida has an open house from 9:00 to 17:00. We will begin the National Day in front of the Siida Building by flying the Sámi flag. The day will continue with the Sámi Museum opening its temporary exhibition The Young Sámi Art Event. The students of the Sámi Education Institute have created a diverse cultural programme for Siida.

The Cultural Centre Sajos, too, will provide the public with a cultural programme that starts in the morning. There will also be a programme produced by the Sámi Education Centre at Sajos. The day-care centre of Inari will also contribute. Sajos will provide an open house and more information on the offices of the house.

The Sámi Parliament’s National Day Celebration begins in Sajos at 15:30 with a reindeer drive for children. Coffee is served at 16:00, and the celebration party lasts from 17:00 to 19:00. Everyone is welcome to attend the warm celebration that focuses on culture!

In Inari, the Sámi National Day has also, for years, meant a church service arranged by the Inari Parish and the association SámiSoster and a meal at the parish hall. The Bishop’s Mass of the National Day is held in the Inari Church at 15:00.

The events arranged in Inari are covered throughout the day by YLE Sápmi, which will start its Nordic broadcasts early in the morning, at 7:10. It could also be mentioned that Andte Gaup-Juuso, the winner of the Big Brother reality show, will be the newstcaster of the Yle Ođđasat on Yle TV1 at 15:10!

Welcome to Inari!

The National Day event is arranged by: Sámi Education Institute, Sámi Museum Siida, Sámi Parliament, YLE Sápmi, SámiSoster, Inari Parish, Sámi Archives, Inari Municipality/Inari School and Day Care.
