Forest Arcade Arrives in Siida

Feb 19, 2016 10:32 AM

The Science Centre Pilke from Rovaniemi brings its Forest Arcade to the Sámi Museum and Nature Centre Siida for 23 Feb – 13 Mar 2016. The Forest Arcade is built around games that are connected with the forest and the use of renewable natural resources. It inspires children and young people to learn more about the forest from a new perspective.

The Forest Arcade visits all the Finnish provinces in 2016–17. Siida is the first target of the tour. The Arcade is a great addition to the exhibitions of Siida during the national skiing holidays. Groups of schoolchildren, students and clubs are invited on special visits during week 9.

In the workshops meant for schools, we will look, with the help of games that are fun, for sustainable ways of living that are based on bioeconomy. Varying by the age group, the workshop will focus on the forest in people’s everyday lives, on forest innovations, or on forest bioeconomy.

The tour of the Forest Arcade is part of the project Pilke360o that promotes networks between the forest sector, bioeconomy agents and future experts on the bioeconomy; it also promotes the use of forest-related learning environments. The project has received financing from the Finnish Forest Foundation and the Metsämiesten Säätiö Foundation. It is realised by Metsähallitus’s Science Centre Pilke in Rovaniemi.
