Inari stand at the Matka 2011 Fair provides information about arctic nature and sámi culture

This year, the Nordic Travel Fair Matka 2011 will also present an Inari stand, which is run by companies and other actors from the village of Inari and the neighboring villages. At the stand, visitors will be introduced to the nature of Northern Lapland and to Sámi culture, the only indigenous culture in Europe.

The Sámi Museum Siida gets resources for the management of Sámi cultural environments

A Sámi Cultural Environment Unit will be established at the Sámi Museum Siida. The founding of the unit has been made possible by two separate projects, the pilot project A Sámi Cultural Environment Unit (Saamelainen kulttuuriympäristöyksikkö) that has been financed by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the project Living Environment (Ealli biras – Elävä ympäristö) that has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The Sámi Cultural Environment Unit will start its activities on 2 February 2011. The pilot project will last until 31 December 2013, and the aim is to run the unit on a permanent basis after that.

Siida changes to winter opening hours

Siida will change to winter opening hours on September 20, 2010. During the winter season, Siida is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Mondays Siida is closed.

The content and the graphic design of the web site of the Sámi Museum – Nature Centre Siida has been reformed. The aim has been to improve the user interface so that it is easier for customers to find information about the services and content of this popular tourist attraction. The new visual design shows Siida “as a window into Sámi culture and Arctic nature”.
