Online Community Events

4.11.2026

Join us to explore Sámi objects in the collections of Nordiska museet and learn about the objects held in the collections and what is known about them.

Objects and the findings of provenance research will be presented in four open online community events between November 2026 and March 2027. During the events, participants will have the opportunity to explore the objects in the collections remotely, with a live connection to Stockholm. The first event will take place on 4 November 2026 at 5 pm (Finnish time). Further details will be announced later.

The Sámi Museum Siida, Nordiska museet in Sweden and the Giellagas Institute at the University of Oulu have launched a collaboration focused on Sámi cultural heritage. The project investigates the background information and histories of old Sámi objects collected from the area of present-day Finland and now held in the collections of Nordiska museet, in collaboration with Sámi communities. This collaboration forms part of the Sámi Museum Siida’s Ellos min árbi – May Our Cultural Heritage Live project (2025–2028), funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.

The aim of the collaboration is to establish the provenance of Sámi objects in the collections of Nordiska museet, including their more detailed origins, collection histories and the overall scope of the collection.
