We Who Remain – Sámi Art in Focus

16.10.2026. - 3.4.2027

A joint exhibition by Kiasma and Sámi Museum Siida brings together contemporary art by Sámi artists and contemporary art addressing Sámi themes from across Sápmi in Finland, Sweden and Norway.

Sápmi, the Sámi homeland, today spans the territories of four countries and existed long before the emergence of Nordic states and ideas of nationalism. The exhibition presents contemporary art that invites visitors to explore Sáminess as told by Sámi themselves. It brings to the fore multilayered experiences in which Sámi identity and culture remain vibrant and continue to exist despite structures imposed from outside.

The exhibition features works by 17 artists. Most of the works date from the 2000s and 2020s, alongside a selection of older works, the earliest dating back to the 1980s.

The exhibition is curated by Petra Laiti.
