From Collections to Classroom – Educational content in Saami languages based on the Sámi Museum Siida’s digital collections on Finna -site. During this project we will curate digital educational material packages in Sámi languages for basic education. The contents are based on the Sámi Museum Siida’s digital collections and exhibition materials published on our Finna -site. In addition, the packages make use of relevant Sámi-related materials available through Finna from other institutions.
The packages will be available in all three Sámi languages spoken in Finland, as well as in Finnish. They will be published through the Sámi Museum Siida’s Finna site. The goal is to strengthen the visibility and accessibility of Sámi cultural heritage in education, and to develop a model that enables the continued creation of educational materials in Sámi languages with ease in the future.
The needs and wishes of teachers are a key starting point in designing the content. The project aims to raise awareness of Finna’s use in education. It will also include workshops for Sámi-speaking teachers.
The project is funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture.
