The Sámi Museum Siida’s Virtual Sápmi (VISA) pilot project will develop a 3D scanning methods for the museum, which will then be used in the storage, community and exhibition work of the museum’s cultural environment and collection units.
The project is community-based. We will explore community ideas and suggestions on digital access to Sámi cultural heritage, in particular in terms of the use of 3D. The pilot project will explore and test the use of technology in practice, for example for objects and cultural sites, in a sustainable way, listening to the wishes and ideas of the community.
The pilot project’s approach is based on an eco-social approach, which includes mapping the phenomena related to the storage and publication of 3D museum collections of Sámi culture in Finland, for example from the perspective of accessibility, tourism and copyright.
The 3D models of the scanned objects and sites will be used primarily for education and accessibility. We hope that the results of the project will also be useful for other activities in the future, such as research and as part of the Sámi Museum’s exhibitions.
